Modern

Modern dance is similar to ballet, but with the freedom, fluidity and expressiveness  of jazz and contemporary dance. It is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities.  The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all need strength and flexibility. This is a highly energetic dance style. Modern dance is simultaneously subtle and dynamic, focused on conveying musicality and emotion through movement. It is commonly set to popular music with vocals, as well as rich instrumentation. Students perform at our end of year production, ‘Footwork’ in the Cork Opera House.
